Nils Frahm
This first release from 2005 by Berlin based composer Nils Frahm is a wonderful outing into electronic/acoustic bliss, full of clean tone blips and squelches that would delight fans of To Rococo Rot and Arovane amongst others, ‘Anfangtastisch’ has a little flutter of acoustic guitar which compliments the overall technical sound of most of the album and ‘Streichelfisch’ is warmed through with an almost Fender Rhodes-ish tinkle.
When electronic music can sound overly soulless and machine like, Nils is one of the few artists that adds some much needed melody into his music, ‘7x 1/8’ clicks and bubbles along to a nursery rhyme like piano piece and even some of the more uptempo tracks like ‘No-w here’ still have all the warmth and soul that so many other pretenders lack!
Fans of Nils Frahm will no doubt already own ‘Streichelfisch’ in one form or another but for those of you that are new to his music (as am I!) I would strongly recommend this as somewhere to begin your journey!
