Duke Ellington
The Duke's 1952 Orchestra is not too well represented on record and these marvelous summer air shots from the Blue Note club in Chicago give US the chance to hear some of Ellington's more obscure compositions such as Bensonality, Bakiff, Tulip or Turnip and Ting-a-Ling, as well as a unique tribute to Lionel Hampton in the perennial Flying Home. This particular Ellington aggregation has a remarkable blend of talented and experienced soloists as well as great exuberance and drive in the ensembles. Includes Clark Terry, Cat Anderson, Paul Gonsalves, Harry Carney, Louie Bellson.
