Pete Magadini
CD reissue of "Polyrhythm" which was originally released in 1976, the album features drummer Peter Magadini using polyrhythm on all 6 tracks from his famous books on the subject. Featuring a hot band with keyboardist George Duke (Frank Zappa Band), saxophones & flute by Don Menza (Buddy Rich Band), and electric bassist Dave Young (Oscar Peterson). Remastered in 2003. The compositions were chosen, not only for their rhythmic variation and adaptability to polyrhythmic interpretation but for their overall musical contribution as well. Listen to the polyrhythm, or just listen period. There are six tunes and six polyrhythmic themes. For example (Samba de Rollins) has a drum / tenor sax smoken' duet followed by an up tempo drum solo. The solo begins in 4/4 and as it develops the solo slips into half note triplets while the hi hat cymbal keeps the basic pulse going in 4/4. You can listen for these things happening throughout the CD or just listen, the CD stands on it's own.
