Protective Role of Vit-e in Doxorubicin Induced Toxicity in Rats

Cancer continues to represent the largest cause of mortality in the world and claims over 6 million lives every year. Treatment of cancer is not found to be safe because of its side effects on the healthy tissue. Several new strategies for cancer treatment are available but none of them proved totally safe to the healthy tissue. Doxorubicin is very active against a wide spectrum of cancers and is mainly used in the treatment of lymphomas and leukemias and other solid tumors like ovarian, breast, lung, thyroid carcinomas etc. Similar to the adverse effects of other anti-cancer agents,it has its own dose-dependent cytotoxicity on heart and other organs. The present study was aimed to evaluate protective role of Vitamin-E in doxorubicin induced toxicity. It helps clinicians in evaluating possible toxic effect of doxorubicin treated patients and helps to know the protective role of Vitamin-E in such clinical cases.
