Only rarely are ceilings of ancient architecture uncovered. The 3.50 meter ceiling at the crossing of the Trier (Germany) cathedral is thus an important find. The 15 ceiling panels have been restored using modern techniques and can be viewed at the Episcopal Cathedral and Diocesan Museum. There are four female busts with Nimbus, as well as busts of three wise men. The eight fields between the busts each contain two putti, and there is one occurrence each of Cupid and Psyche. The author had attempted to uncover the original image two decades ago, but after new reconstruction it is worth revisiting the context of the available panels. In place of personification, more allegories can now be seen. This corresponds to the mentality of the Constantine period and shows that the transition to Christianity was not an immediate event, but rather a process. German text.
