The Chronicles of Up from Slavery: A Teachers Guide was written by Dr. Obiora N. Anekwe in order to help first-year college students develop an oral history project and theatrical production based on

After the productions overwhelming success, Dr. Anekwe presented a joint paper based on the process of creating the Booker T. Washington Writers Desk at the School of Visual Arts Annual Conference in Manhattan, New York, and the Robert R. Taylor Symposium at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama.
