North Shore Overture
David Marlatt
North Shore Boulevard is a street in Burlington, Canada near where settlers landed their ships and established their family roots in the early 1800s. Times were tough but so were they. This piece is split into sections depicting the people and the events that occurred at that time. Full of character and interesting rhythms, this unique overture would work equally well for concert or contest use. This is a great piece to expose developing players to lots of syncopation and some extra flat notes not commonly used for music at this level. North Shore Overture is an excellent end of year piece or something to start off a higher level band as their first piece of the year. (2:25)
