Fugitive Witness

Out for an uneventful night at the theater, a suburban couple find themselves in the middle of a mafia revenge killing. Marilyn Mackey's husband is killed, and Marilyn escapes when an assassin's weapon malfunctions. Threatened with a warning from the shooter, she returns home to an uncertain and terror-filled future. Without the support of her husband who took care of all of the regular aspects of their lives, she gathers up all of her personal and financial documents. Afraid of everyone she meets, mistrustful of law enforcement, and at her wits end, she meets a stranger who unwittingly offers her an opportunity to escape her critical situation. Meanwhile the FBI seizes the murder as an opportunity to bring down a long term and powerful mafia family, so they seek to clandestinely monitor Marilyn's whereabouts, while the mafia tries to silence her. The witness is suddenly turned into a fugitive, pursued by both the forces of justice and mayhem. This fast-paced novel is laced with twists and turns as she meanders about the country accompanied by a stranger whom she is afraid to trust but upon whom she must depend, undercover forces within the organized crime family and complicit government agents complicate both the search and protection of the witness turned fugitive. The wry wit, combined with suspense and fascinating characters leads to a very satisfying experience.
