Chretien de Troyes
Lancelot, the Knight of the Cart is an epic poem by Chrétien de Troyes and is notable for being possibly the first treatment of Lancelot. If not the first story with the famous knight, it is certainly the most important, fully giving Lancelot a prominent position among the Knights of the Round Table, cementing his relationship with Guinevere, and more.
The poem was composed in the 12th century as one of Chrétien's earlier works, and it remains to this day one of the most important stories in the evolution of the Arthurian legends.
