Olaudah Equiano
The memoirs of Olaudah Equiano, originally published in 1789, recounts his remarkable life story. Born in 1745 in Igboland, Nigeria, he was kidnapped as a boy and sold into slavery. He was eventually able to buy his freedom and move to London, where he became involved in the abolitionist movement.
