"Phoenix is the third historical novel by Maine native Jean Edwards.
This story is woven around life in the late nineteenth century following the gold rush to the west. The railroads had just opened their lines from coast to coast.
The adventure begins in obscure Maine woodlands, travels across the Mississippi and reaches the western mountains.
The characters arise from disappointment and defeat to new beginnings.
As with her previous novels, ?The Glove? and ?Mercy, Merci,? poetry, (including three sonnets), is scattered throughout to amplify drama or add humor.
