Historical Archaeologies of Nineteenth-century Colonial Tanzania (Bar S)
Daniel Rhodes
This volume investigates the colonial costal landscape of Tanzania, looking in depth at urban environments as well as a comparative case study of Mombassa. It examined interactions between humans and the natural environment, the maritime setting in particular, and also the development of the built environment and town morphology. The effects of colonialism both on the built and natural environments and the ways in which through architecture and trade these can be used as ideological tools form a focus for the study, as well as the effects of these processes on East African identities.
