?Stages of Higher Knowledge? was written by Rudolf Joseph Lorenz Steiner (1861 - 1925). This version contains a new translation from the original German; a text which was formerly translated under the title ?Gates of Knowledge? as a supplement to a work on ?Knowledge of Higher Worlds.? Steiner was a very well educated man, achieving a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Rostock ? after which he became interested in epistemology and ethics. Steiner set up ?The Anthroposophical Society?, which helped found a school of spiritual science; attempting to find a synthesis between science and mysticism. This text comes out of such interest, and is formed of five thematic chapters including ?Stages?, ?Sleep?, ?Imagination?, ?Inspiration? and the links between ?Inspiration and Intuition.? This book contains an author biography, briefly detailing Steiner?s life, and makes essential reading for anyone interested in psychology, science, mysticism and turn of the century intellectual currents.
