Dartmouth Danube Expedition
Dan Dimancescu
In 1964, nine members of the Ledyard Canoe Club at Dartmouth College canoed the 1500 mile length of the Danube River from Germany to the Black Sea. The three month journey took them through eight countries, six of which were Communist ruled behind the Iron Curtain. Their adventure became a cover story in the National Geographic Magazine (July 1965)
