Afonso de Albuquerque
The publications of the Hakluyt Society (founded in 1846) made available edited (and sometimes translated) early accounts of exploration. Volume 4 of this Victorian English translation of The Commentaries of the Great Afonso Dalboquerque contains an account of his battles at Aden and Ormuz before his death in 1515.
