Publisher Marketing: Missing String Theory: A Musician's Uncommon Spiritual Journey is an autobiographical memoir by renowned Nashville songwriter, guitarist and recording artist Mac Gayden. Gayden, a Nashville native who is best-known as the writer of the pop and R&B standard "Everlasting Love" and the father of the slide-wah guitar technique, recounts his life through the lens of his musical and spiritual development, which became increasingly intertwined as his artistry grew. Gayden was a member of three of the most influential bands in Music City's long and storied history - Charlie McCoy & The Escorts, Area Code 615 and Barefoot Jerry. He also has enjoyed a critically acclaimed career as a solo recording artist, most notably for the three major-label albums he released in the 1970s - McGavock Gayden, Skyboat and Hymn To The Seeker. As a session sideman, Gayden has worked with many legendary artists, including Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Linda Ronstadt, J. J. Cale, Ray Charles, Kris Kristofferson, John Hiatt, Loudon Wainwright III, and Tim Hardin, distinguishing himself as both a rhythm guitarist and pioneering slide player. As a hit songwriter, he has had his songs recorded by an array of artists, including U2, Gloria Estefan, The Box Tops, Huey Lewis & The News, David Ruffin, Love Affair, Joe Simon, Rex Smith, Rachel Sweet and Bobby Bare. Missing String Theory follows Gayden's life from his birth into a old and prominent Nashville family to the present where he remains active as a writer, producer and guitarist. Along the way, he shares with the reader his most important musical and spiritual experiences, powerful moments which raised his consciousness and uplifted him as an artist and as a person while earning him the reputation as a rebel, both artistically and spiritually. Gayden was inspired to write Missing String Theory: A Musician's Uncommon Spiritual Journey as a way of sharing what he has learned during an amazing lifetime, in hopes of encouraging the reader along their own creative and spiritual journeys.
