Manege A Trois
Amstel Quartet & Philippe Elan & Therese Steinmetz
One day in December, a few years ago, Philippe and the Amstel Quartet had a concert in Theater Pulchri, The Hague, and in the front row was a legendary Dutch singer: Thérèse Steinmetz, one of the most important Dutch vocalists from the 60s, 70s and 80, who is now living in Cannes.
After the concert a friendship developed which shortly then resulted in a duo album of French and Dutch chansons, made by pianist / arranger Nico van der Linden: "Paris, Amsterdam". It was almost inevitable that a collaboration between Philippe, Thérèse and the Amstel Quartet would be the next step.
This is a unique EP that was mixed in 2018 by Paul Pouwer in Power Sound Studio Amsterdam: "Manège à trois" is the title of this EP with 5 chansons, consisting of two duets by Philippe and Thérèse, two chansons played by P. Elan and a Dutch listening song composed and sung by Thérèse Steinmetz himself. The worlds of Serge Gainsbourg, Edith Piaf and Jacques Offenbach meet in this surprising "Manège à trois"! Arrangements for the Amstel Quartet have been made especially for this EP by top arrangers Bob Zimmerman and Sylvia Maessen.
