Hydrogeologic Assessment of Aquifer Systems

This is a compilation of an assessment of the nature, the distribution and the quality of groundwater underlying jimeta and environs with a view of identifying areas under threat of quantity and quality. The findings of the study show that two water regimes exist in the study area within the depth bracket of 0-240m. while water in the upper regime (0-40m) is mostly of objectionable quality especially referring to those parameters relating to human contact (nitrate, Chloride and bicarbonate), the lower regime (40-240m) is safe and if sustainably harnessed it can provide a good alternative of water supply to the populace. However it is recommended that for those water sources already polluted a pump and treat method should be adopted to improve the quality as a means of meeting up with the demands of the population. The study also revealed that the area has high potentials of groundwater that can sustain the needs of the growing population.
