This is a book about the development of Taiwan¿s higher education system. I believe education is the soul of a country and has the strength to move any country forward, but only if the flaws in the educational system are properly addressed. I was born in Taiwan and have lived there for 27 years. During this time, I saw a great deal of development and progress of this island; however, I also saw some shortcomings, particularly in the system of higher education. That is the reason we wrote this book. I hope that through this book, readers will gain a better understanding of the progress Taiwan¿s higher education system has made since its inception, and where it is looking to go in the future. Education is a valuable gift for anyone, and despite my criticisms of the educational system in Taiwan, I consider myself fortunate to have benefitted from it. If there is anything I have learned from writing this book, it is that one should cherish every opportunity for a quality education. Cherish it, and use the education as best one can.
