He Won't Let Me Go
Denetria
Here I stood looking at my tear-stained face in the bathroom mirror. My eye was in the early stages of turning black and my lip was split into, "It was worse this time," I thought to myself. He told me that he would never hit me again; that he loved me; he always told me that when I threatened to leave him, and he kept his promises to me for a couple of days; but then it started all over again. How was I supposed to hide this from my family and co-workers? He always used to hit me where no one could see it; but this time he didn't care, he hit me in my face over and over again; I had been hit and kicked on before; but the pain was nothing like I was feeling now. When he first hit me, I was stunned; after a couple of punches, my face began to go numb; but now the numbness is wearing off and I am beginning to feel all of it now. I stood there thinking back to where it all began; when my life went from everything that I had ever hoped for to trying to fight to keep the love that I once felt alive again. The question was: did I want to fight for it; because I wasn't sure I wanted to.
