The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity, is equal to God the Father and God the Son. His role in the Trinity is the Love that binds the Father and Son together. He is the almighty creator who pervades all of creation and played a role in Old Testament times-though the Hebrews regarded "spirit" as a force of God, not a person. Then Jesus introduced the spirit as Spirit, a divine Person at the Last Supper. All through his life on Earth, Jesus was inspired and empowered by the Holy Spirit. After returning to heaven, Jesus remains with us through his Spirit. Unfortunately many people neglect this Third Person, perhaps because as Spirit we don't visualize him except as a dove, one of his symbols. At the Last Supper Jesus called the Holy Spirit our Paraclete, which means advocate, helper, comforter, defender, and counselor. Working in the depths of our being, the Holy Spirit inspires us to be holy. His main goal is to see that we return to the Father and join in the ecstatic dance of the Trinity. He showers us with gifts and virtues that lead us to eternal happiness. The parts the Spirit played in the Old and New Testament are explained in this book, as well as his activities on our behalf today. The symbols that represent the Holy Spirit, such as wind and fire, are noted as ways of discerning who he is for us. The purpose of "The Holy Spirit: Font of Love, Life, and Power" is to entice ordinary men and women to draw on the Spirit's help as they deal with the challenges of life. The Appendix is a collection of prayers to God the Holy Spirit. Tidbits of information and quotations in the margins enhance the book.
