The people of Santa Clara Pueblo fight the blaze to protect their homes. An old hunting outfitter struggles to save his operations. Three teenagers tracking the animal are attacked and chased through the mountains by an unseen terror.

Sheriff Cliff Lansing finds blood at a break-in, a dead body thirty miles from the scene, and needs trackers to find who or what attacked the teens. Meanwhile, the Cerro Grande Fire is a looming threat to Los Alamos, Sandoval, and, eventually, San Phillipe Counties.
