Steps to Empowerment
Johnson
As a mentor and advisor, Dr. Sheary D. Johnson found that many people need to be encouraged, coached, and mentored through their issues. To provide tools for persons to access information when needed, resources were developed as a reference in times of doubt and forgetfulness.
This self-help book is written to help one overcome life's challenges by following logical steps that lead to empowerment in managing the situation. Then the reader is strengthened and enlightened by using books, articles, and videos to further enhance the knowledge and understanding necessary to overcome a situation or challenge. This concept of using books to extend knowledge is known as bibliotherapy.
In an effort to lead the reader logically through this book, the chapters have been organized in the following manner:
Chapter One gives the reader an overview of the bibliotherapy concept.
Chapters Two through Seven show how the reader can overcome different problems using the strategy of following steps to empowerment combined with bibliotherapy. The challenges covered in this book are: low self-esteem, worry, depression, how to develop right thinking, how to solve problems, and goal setting. At the end of the chapter is a page entitled "My Future Steps." On this page, you are to identify your goal and write your plan for implementing what you read in the chapter including the bibliotherapy resources you plan to read or view.
The author wants to empower the reader to find resources for any issue that arises in the future. Chapter Eight gives the user insight into how to locate the various media forms on his or her own. Issues arise in life, and one can utilize these skills whenever the need arises.
The author believes that being able to locate and use information empowers one to meet life's challenges successfully.
